Annual WSDLC Membership Meeting with Guest Speaker Author Joseph Sieracki: Tuesday, May 19th at 3:30pm

Join us for the Annual WSDLC Membership Meeting on Tuesday, May 19th from 3:30pm-4:30pm via Zoom!
Hear from graphic novel author Joseph Sieracki as he shares his works, his writing process, and answers your questions about what it’s like to be a graphic novel author. The WSDLC Project Managers will wrap up the meeting with a short review of what happened in 2025-26 and a look ahead of what’s coming up for 2026-27.

Guest Author Bio:
Joseph Sieracki is the writer of A LETTER TO JO from TOP SHELF, GHOSTS OF SCIENCE PAST by HUMANOIDS, with work on series like TERRORBYTES and SPEED RACER at MAD CAVE, plus additional creator-owned titles.

Volunteer to Serve on the WSDLC Selection Advisory Committee!

The WSDLC Selection Advisory Committee is currently accepting volunteers to serve 2-year terms, to begin on September 1st, 2026.

Requirements to Serve on the WSDLC Selection Advisory Committee
The Selection Advisory Committee Guidelines state that volunteers must be a library media specialist from a WSDLC participating district/school.

WSDLC Selection Advisory Committee Member Duties
The Selection Advisory Committee is responsible for:

  • recommending the scope and direction of the collections included in the WSDLC;
  • advising the Project Managers and vendors on operational collection decisions, including content to be included and budget allocations, as directed by the Board and Collection Development Policy; and
  • providing feedback and recommendations to the WSDLC Board in relation to consortium policies and procedures.

The Committee meets virtually 3-4 times per year: in October, December, and March; and again in April if needed.

Volunteer to Serve on the WSDLC Selection Advisory Committee
Submit your name to be considered to serve on the Selection Advisory Committee via the form. (Reach out to the WSDLC Project Managers for the link, or check your inbox for your emailed version of this post.)
The volunteer form will be available through Friday, April 17th.
Volunteers will be reviewed and selected by the WSDLC Board in order to have a diversity of geography, enrollment size, and grade level experience.

WSDLC Board Elections are Underway!

The WSDLC Board Election is currently open, running from April 6th through April 24th. Only the Member Representative from each WSDLC Member District is authorized to vote, and would have received the ballot link via email on Monday, April 6th. If you feel like you should have received a ballot but haven’t seen it come into your inbox, please reach out to the WSDLC Project Managers at wsdlc-info@wils.org.

March’s Usage Statistics

Looking at March’s Sora usage across the consortium:

  • 35,159 Audiobooks were checked out,
  • 193,332 Ebooks were checked out, and
  • 9,643 Magazines were checked out,

all adding up to a monthly total of 238,134 titles read, by 46,723 individual students across the state.

New Titles Added in March

Last month, 310 completely new titles were added into the shared collection!

  • 56 Audiobooks: 9 Lower Elementary; 15 Upper Elementary; 9 Middle School, and 23 Lower High School
  • 252 Ebooks: 85 Lower Elementary; 67 Upper Elementary; 26 Middle School; 68 Lower High School; and 6 Upper High School
  • 2 Magazines: 1 Middle School; and 1 Lower High School

Of these new titles, there are:

  • 61 Subject Areas, the top five being: Juvenile Fiction (159), Juvenile Literature (143), Young Adult Fiction (92), Fantasy (64), and Young Adult Literature (55)S
  • 42 Publishers, the top five being: Penguin Group (USA) Inc (36), Random House Inc (32), Simon & Schuster Inc (31), HarperCollins Publishers, Inc (30), and Books on Tape (25)
  • 2 Spanish-Language Titles: 1 in the Upper Elementary Collection, and 1 in the Middle School Collection
  • 10 Lending Models: 125 OC/OU, 108 MA (12mo/OU), 37 MA (24mo/OU), 32 MA (26 checkouts/OU), 1 MA (25checkouts or 24mo/OU), 1 MA (52 checkouts or 24mo/OU), 6 Subscription (ie Simultaneous Use), 5 CPC, 3 MA (100 checkouts/concurrent users), and 1 MA (12mo/OU)

What are Advantage Bundle Carts?

Every few months, the WSDLC’s dedicated Digital Content Specialist Librarian at OverDrive, Beth Saxton, identifies collections of titles and prepackages them into sets that WSDLC members can purchase for only their students just by completing a quick Google Form. No thinking about how to best leverage your budget, no going through reports and lists to identify certain titles, and no logging in to OverDrive Marketplace. Just a simple, straightforward way to reduce your students’ wait times on the titles they want most. If building up your school’s Advantage offerings in Sora is something that always gets set aside for another time, Advantage Bundle Carts are here was a way to make things at least a little bit easier for WSDLC members.
