Weekly Message: August 9th, 2022

Happy Tuesday! In addition to our regular announcements and sharing of news, over the next few weeks, we’ll also be highlighting brief (re)introductions to the makeup of the WSDLC: from WSDLC’s Governance to the partners at OverDrive; from the WSDLC’s history to why/how Statistics are pulled; and everything in between.

[Re]Introduction to the WSDLC: Governance

WSDLC Board

The Wisconsin Schools Digital Library Consortium (WSDLC) is governed by a Board consisting of members of the consortium and representatives from the partners (CESA Purchasing, CESA Statewide Network, DPI, and WILS).  The consortium members are either elected to represent a specific CESA geographic area, or are selected by the current board as at-large representatives.
The Board is governed by the Operational Guidelines, and is responsible for representing the project to partners, monitoring and tracking the WSDLC budget, making decisions based on recommendations from the Project Managers and/or the Selection Advisory Committee, and reviewing and approving documents, policies, contracts, and guidelines.
Board meetings occur four times throughout the year: in October, January, March, and April. Within a week after each board meeting, WSDLC Project Managers will send out a message outlining the meeting discussions.

In Spring 2022, nine WSDLC members were (re)elected to represent their CESA district on the WSDLC board, with another 5 folks appointed to sit as At-Large members beginning with the 2022-23 Membership year! Your WSDLC Board for 2022-23 is:

The WSDLC Board also has representatives from its partners, which include CESA Purchasing, DPI, CESA Statewide Network, and WiLS (non-voting).

WSDLC Selection Advisory Committee

The Selection Advisory Committee is made up of 5-7 volunteers from Member school districts, and is guided by the document of Charges. As directed by the Board and Collection Development Policy, this committee recommends the scope and direction of the collections included in the WSDLC; advise the project manager and vendors on operational collection decisions, including content to be included and budget allocations; review documentation and processes; and review challenges to materials and recommend action(s) to the Board.
Meetings are held three times per year, prior to the WSDLC Board Meetings in October, December, and March.

Send Us Your Tiny Case Study Ideas!

WSDLC’s Tiny Case Studies are brief, practical summaries of outstanding things that some WSDLC members are doing that involve Sora and serve as an opportunity for members to share a WSDLC-related problem they had and how they solved it. We highlight these Tiny Case Studies during various Flipped Classroom months, but you can also view them all by clicking the following link or copy/pasting it into your browser: https://wsdlc.org/training/tiny-case-studies/.

If you’ve done something lately that you’d like to share with the WSDLC Community, let us know! Maybe you’ve put together some creative marketing, started a student reading book club, engaged your school’s teachers on how they can utilize these resources in their classroom, or made a successful case for funding. No idea or accomplishment is too small!

You can submit your tiny case study idea by email at wsdlc-info@wils.org or complete the idea form, and we will reach out to you with the next steps!
