Weekly Message: August 30th, 2022

It’s the final countdown to the start of the new school year, and the WSDLC Project Managers have a number of start-of-the-year reminders and opportunities to share. To get this message started, throughout August we’ve been highlighting brief (re)introductions to the WSDLC, and this week we’ll round that off with the people behind the WSDLC: the Project Managers and OverDrive Staff!

[Re]Introduction to the WSDLC: Meet the Team!

WSDLC Project Managers

The WSDLC Project Managers are staff from WiLS that support the WSDLC through: membership support (enrollments, renewals, invoicing), fiscal agency, governance support, meeting management, shared collection planning, training, marketing and communications, research and resources (in particular for Collection Support and Intellectual Freedom), and building relationships and acting as a liaison with peer organizations and vendors.

OverDrive Partners
The WSDLC has an amazing group of dedicated staff from OverDrive to help support WSDLC members in their usage of Sora. They help get schools the access they want and need; give detailed and tailored trainings and walkthroughs on how schools can get the most out of Sora; curate the collections and make sure titles are leveled appropriately; help with Advantage invoicing and purchasing (content credit); provide the technical support schools need; and so much more. They work hard to make Sora the best that it can be, listen to the consortium’s needs, and have the WSDLC’s best interests in mind.
Below are each of these spectacular people, along with their contact information and a brief list of their specialty areas.

Flipped Classroom: Getting Started Begins on Thursday!

The WSDLC offers a self-paced training series to help new members get oriented (and as a refresher for returning members) with their membership and the Sora collections. Every month, a different topic and set of materials are highlighted to help guide members throughout the school year. The content of these Flipped Classrooms are intended for Library Media Specialists and anyone else that may help to manage school/district library resources, OverDrive Advantage purchasing, and digital classroom materials. Materials are available for members to review on their own and OverDrive staff are ready to schedule one-on-one 20-minute sessions to answer members’ questions.
Beginning on Thursday, September 1st, we’ll be starting with, you guessed it, Getting Started! During this flipped classroom, members can get an overview of how to use Sora, learn the various lending models, and get a brief introduction to OverDrive Advantage accounts and Marketplace (with more details on these topics coming in later months).
You can find more information on WSDLC Training opportunities and materials here: https://wsdlc.org/training/

FAQ: When Can I Expect My 2022-23 WSDLC Membership Invoice?

Unless you’ve already received your invoice, or if you indicated a particular invoicing-date when you completed the renewal form, invoices for the 2022-23 WSDLC membership will start getting sent out next week. Invoices will be generated and sent out in batches, but everyone can expect to see their invoice arrive by the end of September.
As a reminder, invoices will be coming from WiLS and should be paid to WiLS. And since WSDLC is a separate consortium from WiLS, those of you who are also WiLS Coop members will not find your WSDLC membership invoice(s) in your MyWiLS account.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the WSDLC Project Managers (wsdlc-info@wils.org) if your invoice doesn’t arrive by October, if you’d like your invoice sooner or later, or if you have any questions or concerns about your invoice.

Reminder: OverDrive IP Address Update (for some members) Coming in October

This update will only affect members that use LDAP, SIP or Patron API.
Members that use Google, Follett, ClassLink or User Login Manager will not be affected and can ignore this messaging.
Schools that use LDAP, SIP or Patron API should share the information below with your technical staff at your school:
As part of OverDrive’s commitment to providing best-in-class services, we are updating our network configuration on October 10, 2022. At that time, OverDrive’s IP addresses will change from 207.54.136.0/23 to 134.195.60.0/24.
Please share this message with technical staff at your library.
Action required
You may currently be allowing 207.54.136.106207.54.137.114, and 207.54.137.115 through your firewall for OverDrive to connect with your ILS/LMS to authenticate users during the sign in process. If so, you need to update your firewall before October 10, 2022, to allow the following subnet: 134.195.60.0/24. This will ensure there is no disruption for your users. For now, please continue to allow 207.54.136.106207.54.137.114, and 207.54.137.115 through your firewall.
If your authentication service is hosted offsite by your ILS/LMS vendor, we recommend contacting them to confirm you are ready for the updated IP addresses.
Additionally, in rare circumstances, some institutions filter outbound network access to specific IP addresses. If your institution does this, you will need to add 134.195.60.0/24 to your allow list to ensure your users can still access OverDrive from within your network after this change.
What’s next?
OverDrive will send a follow up message in October confirming that this migration is complete and it is safe to remove the legacy 207.54.136.0/23 IP addresses from your firewall.
If you have any additional questions, please reach out to our team via the Authentication Support button under the Support tab in OverDrive Marketplace.
